Jean Ojala

Obituary of Jean Ojala Hancock Jean M. Ojala, 76, a resident of Hancock passed away Saturday morning August 28, 2010, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past two and half years. She was born in Hancock on October 26, 1933, a daughter of the late Walter and Thelma (McCaully) Walman. As a child, she was raised in Mesnard Location and attended the Hancock Schools. Jean had resided in Hancock for most of her life spending over 16 years as a resident of Lake View Manor. Mrs. Ojala worked for Our Lady of Mercy Convalescent Home in Hubbell and then at a foster care home in Hubbell as a nurse's aide. On November 3, 1951, she was united in marriage to Toivo Ojala and he preceded her in death on October 22, 1974. Jean was a member of S.S. Peter and Paul Lutheran Church of Houghton, was active with Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly and enjoyed making quilts for needy people. Jean spent time working puzzles, crafting and gardening with flowers and vegetables. She will always be remembered for her love of life and love of people. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, her grandson William Ojala, her brothers Carl, George, Russell, and her sister Kathy Walman-Hale. Surviving are: Her children: Ruth Ojala of Dollar Bay Raymond (Dorthy) Ojala of Hubbell Her grandchildren: Raymond Ojala Jr., Crystal Aho and Christopher Harris Her great grandchildren: Spencer Harris, Ivy and Isaiah Aho Several nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services for Jean will be held 5 pm Tuesday August 31, 2010, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Aaron Gehrke to officiate.
