Jean Delores Schweitzer

Jean Schweitzer, 89, a resident patient at the Canal View – Houghton County passed away Wednesday, July 10, 2024.

She was born on April 13, 1935, in Atlantic Mine, MI, a daughter of the late George and Bertha (Nelson) Schweitzer.  Jean was raised in Atlantic Mine and attended the Jeffers School.

Jean was united in marriage to LeRoy Heikkinen.  The couple had resided in Atlantic Mine and Flint before parting ways.  Jean then moved to Milwaukee and began a career working for Briggs and Stratton retiring after 35 years of service to the company.

Jean was united in marriage to Ronald Keepers and the couple enjoyed traveling the country as over the road truckers until Ronald preceded Jean in death.  While residing in Milwaukee Jean enjoyed working on her flower gardens and on various home remodeling projects.  Since 2017, she has been a resident patient at Canal View –Houghton County in Hancock.

Preceding her in death were her husband, her children; Vicki Lynn Heikkinen and Todd Malila; her brother Robert Schweitzer and her sister Marian Outinen along with her partner in crime and best friend Francis Lompre.

Surviving are:

Her sons: James Heikkinen of Marquette

Gary (Synda) Heikkinen of Somerset, KY

Tom Heikkinen of Stevens Point, WI

9 grandchildren

Her brother Gordon Schweitzer of Kenosha, WI

Her sister: Mona Schweitzer of DePere, WI

Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins

A memorial service for Jean will be held 1:00 pm Tuesday, July 16, 2024, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral & Cremation Service – Hancock Chapel with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate.  Burial will be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.

Friends may call on Tuesday, July 16, 2024, from 12 noon until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral home of Hancock.
