Obituary of Jeanette Lowney MRS Houghton Jeanette M. Lowney, 94, a resident of Houghton passed away Tuesday evening December 3, 2013, at the Omega House in Houghton. Jeanette (Gagnon) Lowney was born to Exilda (Girouard) and Arthur Gagnon on April 19, 1919, in Lake Linden, MI. She was baptized and raised Catholic at St. Joseph's Church in Lake Linden. Jeanette graduated from Lake Linden high School class of 1936. She worked at Bundy Foundry in Detroit for one year and then returned to the Copper Country and worked for Central Foods as a cashier. She was employed at Jims Foods in Houghton and worked her way to head cashier for over 30 years. Jeanette met the love of her life James A. Lowney Jr. at the Spanish Shop and was married at the age of 20. They celebrated 53 years of marriage together and raised two children James A. Lowney III and Mary Patricia Lowney. On October 22, 1992 James preceded her in death. Preceding her in death were her oldest sister Irene Asselin and her brother Weldon Gagnon. Mrs. Lowney was a member St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton, where she was active with the Altar Society, WCOF member for over 50 years, Knights of Columbus, Master's Wife and Lady Jeanette for quite a few years. Jeanette's legacy is the family camp at Twin Lakes. She and her husband moved a camp from Donken, by truck to their lot on Telephone Rd. It became the family retreat. Parties, baptisms, baths in the lake, fishing and visiting with family and their friends were her greatest love. Surviving are: Her children, James "Beaver" (Gloria) Lowney and Mary Pat (Jerry) Wiser. Her grandchildren; Sandra (Rick) Weyrauch, James (Catherine) Wiser, Michelle Cooper and Christine (David) Moye, 11 great grandchildren, Her sister: Gloria Judnich Her sisters-in-law: Carol Lowney Theresa Holombo Many nieces, nephews, and cousins A Mass of Christian Burial for Jeanette will be held 11 am Saturday December 7, 2013, at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton with Fr. John Martignon to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday December 7, 2013, from 9 am until time of services at St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church of Houghton. A Rosary will be recited at 5:30PM Friday evening at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock. In lieu of orther expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to the Omega House or St. Ignatius Loyola Catholic Church in memory of Jeanette M. Lowney.
