Obituary of Joan Sundquist Houghton Joan Sundquist, 77, a resident of Houghton passed away Sunday afternoon May 18, 2008, at the Omega House in Houghton where she had been a resident patient for the past week. She was born on January 26, 1931, in Salo Location, a daughter of the late Oscar and I. Elizabeth (Maki) Pike. As a child, she was raised in the Hancock area and graduated from the Hancock High School, where she met her future husband. On September 2, 1950, she was united in marriage to her high school sweetheart Fred Sundquist. Together, the couple has resided in various cities in the Midwest such as; Altoona, WI and Medford, WI. They moved back to the Copper Country in 1995 to make their home in Houghton. Mrs. Sundquist was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. Joan will always be remembered for her personality and for being able to meet stranger and becoming friends with them quickly. Preceding her in death were her parents and siblings; Ruth Kurtti, Gerald Pike, and Sheila Heaton. Surviving are: Her husband: Fred Sundquist of Houghton Her children: Colleen Sundquist of Pebble Beach, CA Mark (Jan) Sundquist of Munising, MI Roger Sundquist of Waukesha, WI Becky (Rob) Sundquist-Murray of Pinole, CA DeDe (John) Strama of Medford, WI Her grandchildren: Dena, Rafael, Derek, Trenna, Eric, Raya, and Taylor Her great grandchild: Logan Her sisters: Honey (Ken) Enzor of Lougen, TN Vivian Rice of Boulder City, NV Her brother: Marvin (Shirley) Pike of Lower, MI Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Joan will be held 1 p.m. Thursday May 22, 2008, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Thursday May 22, 2008, from 12 noon until time of services at the church.
