John Burgbacher, 82, a former resident of Hancock, MI, passed away June 26, 2023 in Poplarville, MS.
He was a 1960 graduate of Hancock High School and served in the US Navy 1961-63 on the USS Intrepid.
He attended Suomi and Worsham colleges. He worked in law enforcement for 14 years, entered pastoral ministry in 1981, retiring in 1995, was an apprentice funeral director and elected Dodge County Coroner in 2000. He was a member of the Beaver Dam, WI American Legion, Dodge County chaplain and secretary of the Wisconsin Coroner and Medical Examiners Association.
He was preceded in death by his parents, first wife Dorothy and grandson, Joshua Burgbacher. He is survived by his wife, Anne, of Chuckey, TN; children: Shawn (Karla) Burgbacher of Battlefield, MO, Dawn (Dan) Halverson of Eagle River, WI, Toni (Lloyd) DeGroot of Poplarville, MS and Christopher (Lauren) of Oshkosh, WI; sisters Anne (Ed) Newman of DePere, WI, Mary (Joe) Rossi of Houghton, MI, a brother Jerry (Jill) of Appleton, WI; six grandchildren: Kaitlyn (William) Pevytoe, of Orchard Beach, MD, Alysan Burgbacher of Battlefield, MO, Justin (Katie) Collins of Greenville, WI, Jonathon Collins of South Grand Forks, ND, David Halverson of Conover, WI and Danielle Halverson of Milwaukee, WI; two great grandsons, Mason and Logan Pevytoe, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
