Obituary of John "Jack" Morgan Fear Bootjack, Lt. Col. John Jack M. Fear, USAF, Ret. It is with deep sadness that the family of John Morgan Fear announces his passing from a sudden illness on June 23rd 2015 at Portage Hospital in Hancock, Michigan. He was 84. Jack is survived by his son John M. Fear II and Johns wife Rose, his daughter Barbara (Bo) Grant, his son-in-law Bruce King, and his faithful and beloved dog, PJ. Jacks grandchildren are Anne Flynn and her husband Jeremy, John M. Fear III and Molly Grant. Jack was blessed and proud to have three great-grandchildren, Malia, Dominic and Marina Flynn. Jack was sadly preceded in death by his dearly loved wife Evelyn (85) in 2013, his daughter Linda King (56) in 2010, his grandson Jason King (14) in 2001 and grandbabies Ashley and Bailey Grant in 2002. Jack was born in Pittston, Pennsylvania on November 14, 1930 to the late Fred and Helen Fear. He graduated in 1952 from Lehigh University, in Bethlehem, PA with a Bachelors Degree in Psychology. In the same year, Jack was commissioned as an officer in the United States Air Force and served with the National Air Defense Command. Jack soon met the love of his life, Evelyn and they were married on January 10, 1959. Jack and Ev began their family and military lives together on Long Island, NY and the Air Force made sure they would see the country. Over Jacks 22 year career in the Air Force, the Fear family lived in New York, Texas, Alaska, Pennsylvania, Arizona, Montana and Oregon before they called the Copper Country home. Lt. Colonel John M. Fear became the Commander of the Calumet Air Force Station in 1971 after a tour in Vietnam. Jack retired from the Air Force in 1974. Jack and Evelyn and their many doggies made Bootjack their home for the next 41 years. Not one to really retire, Jack began a new career as Executive Vice President of the Copper Country Chamber of Commerce from 1974 through 1978. Jack also led the Western Upper Peninsula Planning and Development Region from 1978 through 1989. When Jack finally retired, he did so with much enthusiasm. He continued to ride his motorcycle (but added a sidecar at age 83 for stability), played the organ daily, drove a sports car and recently took up drums and formed The Old Bucks Band. Jack was an Elder at Saints Peter and Paul Lutheran Church, a Rotarian for many years and was a member of the Knights of the Round Table. Jack was blessed with a wonderful life which he made certain was God-centered. He was a man of great integrity and character who defended and fought for what he believed in and what he knew was right. Jack was gracious and social and always made reservations. With Gods help, Jack was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. He will be missed tremendously, not only by his beloved family and friends, but also by his church and so many in the Copper Country whose lives he touched over the past 41 years. Well done thou good and faithful servant (Matthew 25:21). The memorial service for John Fear will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2015 at 5:00 pm at Saints Peter and Paul Lutheran Church of Houghton, 1010 Madeleine Street, with Pastors David Weber and Aaron Gehrke officiating. The family will receive friends before the service, between 3:00 pm and 5:00 pm in the chapel. A light dinner will be served after the service for friends and family. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be made to Saints Peter and Paul Lutheran Church Foundation of Houghton, Jacks family church for many years. Jack also supported many charities for veterans, children, animals and Alzheimers Research. Condolences to the family may be left on Jacks online memorial website at www.memorialchapel.net. Cremation will take place. Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Petoskey, MI, a vacation place that Jack and Evelyn loved. The Memorial Chapel & Plowe Funeral Service of Houghton is assisting the family with arrangements. To send flowers to the family of John "Jack" Fear, please visit Tribute Store
