Obituary of John Lassila Houghton John E. Lassila, 72, a resident of N. Superior Rd., Houghton, passed away early Friday morning, Oct. 22, 2004, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where he was a resident patient. He was born in Detroit on Jan. 15, 1932, a son of the late Iver and Anna (Naasko) Lassila and resided there until moving to the Copper country area at the age of 62. He received his B.S. Degree in Mechanical Engineering from Wayne State University in Detroit, and worked for the U.S. Government as a Mechanical engineer. Mr. Laasila was a veteran having served with the U.S. Navy on board the U.S.S. Caloosahatchee. John was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. He was also preceded in death by 1 brother, Martin Paul. Surviving are: 2 Sisters: Mrs. Charlotte (Don) Daavettila of Houghton Mrs. Mary (Floyd) Granroth of N. Superior Rd. of Houghton numerous nieces, nephews & cousins Funeral services will be held Monday, Oct. 25, 2004, at 11 A.M. in the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Rev. Richard Eskola to officiate. Burial to be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton. Friends may call at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock on Sunday from 4 to 8 P.M. and for 1 hour prior to the services at the church on Monday.
