Obituary of John Graman Manninen Hancock John Manninen, 66, a resident of Hancock, passed away Tuesday morning September 16, 2014, at home following a lengthy illness. He was born on January 16, 1948, in Hancock, a son of the late Rudolph and Gloria (Graman) Manninen. John was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1966. He then worked for C&H Osceola Mine 13 before entering the United States Air Force where he served at Travis Air Force Base, CA, during the Vietnam War. John was employed with Formatics in Dollar Bay, Coast-to-Coast in Hancock, Superior Sausage of Dollar Bay, the Courier Dispatch, Fort Wilkin State Park and the Houghton County Road Commission during the winters. He then worked as a maintenance man for 21 years at the Isle Royale National Park until health problems forced an early retirement in 2008. John enjoyed spending time with his family, fishing, 4-wheeling, hiking, boating and taking pictures. Preceding him in death were his parents, his grandmother Freda Manninen (Who raised him), his sister Patricia Manninen and his brother Howard Manninen. Arvo Onermaa to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Friday September 19, 2014, from 11 am until time of services at the funeral home. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to the Copper County Human Society or the charity of ones choice.
