Obituary of John Elmer Riutta Hancock John E. Riutta, 86, a resident of Hancock passed away Thursday October 25, 2012, at Cypress Manor in Hancock where he had been a resident patient. He was born on July 29, 1926, in Houghton, a son of the late Wilhard and Naimi (Kurula) Riutta. John was raised in Hancock and attended the Hancock Schools. Mr. Riutta was a veteran having served with the United States Army during World War II and the Korean War with the tank divisions. Following the service, John resided in Kenosha, WI, Butte, Montana where he was a miner, and then Washington State where he worked in the apple orchards. John also was a merchant marine and sailed on the Great Lakes. He retired to Keweenaw Bay and has also lived in Baraga and Hancock before becoming a resident patient at Cypress Manor in Hancock. John was raised in the Apostolic Lutheran Faith. He enjoyed time in the wilderness and all animals. Preceding him in death were his parents and brothers; Albert, Ernest & Reuben. Surviving are: His siblings: Wesley (Ruth) Riutta of Kenosha, WI Wallace (Gloria) Riutta of Chassell Helen (Wilho) Knuuti of Menasha, WI Gertrude (Melvin) Maatta of South Range Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins A private funeral for John will be held at a later date at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev.
