Joseph M. Swetich, 79, a resident of Alston, passed away on Tuesday, July 28, 2026, at his home following a lengthy illness.
Joe was born on December 29, 1946, in Hancock, a son of the late Joseph R. and Doris (Duzek) Swetich. He was raised in Dodgeville and attended the Houghton Schools.
In 1964, Joe enlisted in the United States Army. He honorably served with HHC 1st Battalion, 7th Infantry, stationed in Germany. Joe then began working at the White Pine Mine. He joined the Ironworkers Local 8 Union shortly thereafter and worked his career in the construction field.
Joe enjoyed being in Alston at the hunting camp. So much that he made it his home. He loved hunting, fishing, being outdoors, and carpentry. He always had a project in the works, such as crafting picnic tables. Joe also enjoyed playing baseball and watching the Detroit Tigers.
Preceding Joe in death are his parents.
He is survived by his children:

Bobbie Jo (Steve) Holman
Frank (Robin) Swetich
David (Ashley) Swetich
His grandchildren: Harley, Joseph, Hannah, Kourtney, Christopher, Brody and Waylon
A great-grandchild, Reagan
His brother Jerry (Doreen) Swetich
Joe is further survived by nieces, nephews, and friends.
A celebration of Joe’s life will take place at a later time.
