Obituary of Juliana Yrjana HancockJuliana E. Yrjana, 86, a resident of Hancock, passed away Friday morning July 23, 2010, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past three months.She was born on December 8, 1923, in Pelkie, a daughter of the late Oscar and Evelyn Strang. At an early age she moved to Hancock and attended the Quincy and Hancock Schools.In 1944 Juliana worked for Michigan Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator quitting in 1946 to raise her children. In 1967 she earned her GED certificate and went to work for St. Joseph's (Portage) Hospital in Hancock and retired in 1986 due to her ill health.In January of 1944 she was united in marriage to Elmer Yrjana, together the couple resided in Hancock, Hubbell for over 30 years, and Liminga, after 53 years of marriage Elmer preceded her in death in August of 1997.Mrs. Yrjana was a member of S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church of Houghton.Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, 6 brothers and 4 sisters.Surviving are: Her children: William (Mary) Yrjana of the Houghton CanalJohn Yrjana of Rice LakeMary (David) Solosky of Harvey James (Acyne) Yrjana of Champion 10 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildrenNumerous nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.Funeral services for Juliana will be held 1 pm Monday July 26, 2010, at S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church of Houghton with Pastor Aaron Gehrke to officiate. Burial will be in the Liminga Cemetery.Friends may call on Monday July 26, 2010, from 11 am until time of the services at S.S.
