Keith Kenneth Rintala 69, a resident of Houghton, MI passed away unexpectantly July 27, 2026. He was born in Hancock, MI January 18, 1957 to the late Kenneth and LaVerne (Maatta) Rintala.

The phenomenon that was Keith:

Unlimited in love, patience, Sisu and lust for life. Friend to everyone; An inspiration and example for all of us.

He began his adventure in 1957 and grew up between the U.P. and Montana. Keith enjoyed a childhood exploring the outdoors with cousins and neighbors. He had a demeanor of obligation and loyalty shaped by tight family values and respect for all Earth's creatures.

He spent his early adult life in Chicago and California before parking his van in Minneapolis, MN. Touring with Edie Brickell and Bob Dylan in Europe instilled a resolve to make music for his own tours. Artistic success was supplemented by stints of cab driving, carpentry and tree planting. He made himself available to anyone in need. Human connection was his driving force.

He settled at last in the U.P. with his wife and son, starting a freight business that kept him in contact with family and friends in which he valued. His family joined him on the road for many happy years of adventuring the American terrain. He enjoyed hiking, skiing, and biking with his wife and son exploring the outdoors as much as possible.

Rebuilding the ancestral farmhouse was the project of his family's hearts and the dream of living together in his childhood home.

He was ready to drive these horizons until the journey's end.

Keith is survived by his wife Shannon, son Eero, daughter Miriam and foster son Eden, Sisters Kim (Jay) Schweitzer of Houghton, MI and Kelly (Steve) White of Ramsey, MN.

6 Grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren, 1 niece and 5 nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Kenneth and Laverne (Maatta) Rintala and Father-in-law Carl Fletcher.
