Obituary of Kenneth William Nerg Chassell Kenneth W. Nerg, 85, a resident of Chassell passed away Sunday evening October 11, 2015, at UP Health – Portage where he had been a patient for the past six days. Since this past April he was a resident patient at the Houghton County Medical care facility in Hancock. He was born on September 16, 1930, in Chassell, son of Charles & Hulda (Sormunen) Nerg. He was a graduate of the Chassell High School with the class of 1948. Ken lived on the family farm until being drafted in the United States Army, serving in the Canal Zone from 1951 to 1953. Mr. Nerg was a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. Ken had farmed on the Chassell farm with milk cows and chickens, selling eggs to customers around the Copper Country. He then developed his vegetable garden to sell the best tomatoes in the area. With his farming experience, Ken was employed with the Department of Natural Resources to work as a farmer for wildlife in Baraga County retiring in 1993. During that time he was able to help with the Moose Drops in 1985 and 1987, in Michigamee. Surviving are: His Brother: Roy Nerg of Chassell His sister: Mildred (Nerg) Verhines of Howell, MI His sister-in-law: Vera Nerg of Cheboygan, MI Numerous nieces nephews and cousins Funeral service for Ken will be held 11 am Saturday October 17, 2015, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Chassell with Elmer Liimatta to officiate. The Copper Country Veterans Association will hold military honors. Burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery.
