Obituary of Kenneth Philip Pennanen Calumet Kenneth P. Pennanen, 85, a resident of Calumet, passed away Sunday afternoon February 14, 2016, at his home following a lengthy illness. He was born on September 1, 1930, in Hancock, MI, son of the late Leonard and Julia (Karjala) Pennanen. Ken was raised in Toivola and was a graduate of Jeffers High School with the class of 1950. Ken was a veteran having served with the United States Army as a Staff Sargeant during the Korean War. On December 17, 1955, he was united in marriage to Shirley Wanhala. The couple had resided in Garden City, MI, Westland, MI and Dollar Bay, MI. On January 17, 2008, Shirley preceded Kennneth in death. More recently Ken has resided in Calumet. Ken had worked a variety of jobs locally after graduation, his favorite being driving a logging truck. While residing in lower Michigan, Ken had worked and retired as a Trafiic Manager for both Sherwin Williams and Budd Co. Surviving are: His children: Lisa Yeates of Calumet, MI Michael (Lisa) Pennanen of Brownstown Township, MI Tina (Joey) Beauchamp of Livonia, MI His grandchildren: Kimberly, Kayla, Tyler, Melanie, Jacob and Kyle His great granddaughter: Gracie His brother & sister: Allan (Sandra) Pennanen of Sterling Heights, MI Patricia Janda of Fort Walton Beach, FL Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins As requested, a private graveside service for Kenneth will be held later this spring in the Elo Cemetery. Mr. Pennanens family would like to thank the staff and hospice workers of Aspirius Home Health and Hospice for the care given to Kenneth.
