Obituary of Kenneth John Mark Steiner Houghton Kenneth Steiner, 66, a resident of Houghton passed away Sunday morning January 1, 2017, at the UP Health – Marquette Hospital where he had been a patient for the past four days. Ken was born on November 3, 1950, in Pittsburg, PA, a son of the late Carl and Lois (Koch) Steiner. He was raised in Chicago and Detroit. Since the early 1970 he has made his home in the Copper Country. Mr. Steiner had worked as a cook at Funkeys Karma Kafe and was a founding member of the Keweenaw Co-op. He cooked at the Consumers Advocate, Harbor Haus, Pilgrim River Steak House, Ripley Ski Hill, Roys Bakery, along with various restaurants in the area. He volunteered with Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly for 30 years. He reffed College Volley Ball, umpired baseball and played in the local softball leagues for many years and was also active with the local Audubon Society helping with many birds counts in the area. He also traveled and sang with the Michigan Tech concert choir and spent many nights jamming on his harmonica with different musicians in the area. Ken also was an avid runner who was proud to have finished the Grandmas Marathon in Duluth, MN. Surviving are: His daughter: Amber Silberg-Steiner of Velva, ND His seven brothers & sisters Several nieces, nephews and cousins A time to remember Ken will be held 7 pm Friday January 6, 2017, at Rozsa Center on Michigan Techs Campus. An open visitation for Ken will be held on Friday January 6, from 5:30 pm until time of services at the Rozsa Centers Lobby. All musicians are welcome to joins together one in the lobby of the Rozsas Center following the service for one more jam session in Kens memory. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly in Kenneth Steiners memory.
