Obituary of Lili Sophia Tormala Portage Entry Lili S. Tormala, 96, a formerly of Portage Entry and recently a resident patient of Winona House at Portage Pointe, joined the Lord and loved ones at home in heaven just after sunset on Saturday, March 1st 2008. The former Lili Isolampi was born on August 19, 1911, in Hancock a daughter of the late Frank and Susanna Isolampi. She was a 1930 graduate of the Hancock High School She married Henry Tormala a commercial fisherman in August 1930 and they lived & worked in Portage Entry. She was the first woman elected to the Chassell School Board and served for 12 years. She was also an employee of the Houghton County Department of Social Services, retiring in 1976. Lili was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell. Lili was preceded in death by her husband Henry in 1976, 2 daughters, Margaret Ruth and Lucille Rocchi, 2 grandchildren and son-in-law, Gary Soumis. Also preceding her in death were four brothers Armas, Sulo, Frank a sister Aune and her twin sister Aili. She was admired for her strength, wisdom, and pure love. Surviving are her daughter Mary Lee Nordstrom and Carl of Chassell, Paul & Carolyn of East China, MI, Howard and Mona of West Lake, Ohio. Son-in-law Albert Rocchi of Hancock and her sister Laila Hauswirth of Houghton. 11 grandchildren: Steve, Bill, & Tom Rocchi and Karen Schillig, Tanya Albee, Vikki & Andrew Tormala, Mitch Tormala & Kristen Hill, Suzanne Keranen, Amy Soumis Hyrkas along with 15 great grandchildren, Ian, Marina, Vanna, Kyra, Venn, Fields, Willow, Laura, Alyssa, Kevin, Selina, Zane, Elizabeth, Russell, and Henry numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services for Lili will be held 11 a.m. Thursday March 6, 2008, at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Ted Koehl to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call on Wednesday March 5, 2008, from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Chassell and on Thursday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell.
