HancockLinda Givens, 85, a resident of Hancock, passed away Wednesday, February 2, 2022, at the Medora House of Portage Point where she had been a resident for the past 3 years.She was born on September 7, 1936, in Chassell, MI, a daughter of the late Jacob and Hannah (Heikkinen) Komula. Linda was raised n the Chassell area and graduated Valedictorian of her class from the Chassell High School in 1954. She then attended Soumi College and graduated from Northern Michigan University with a teaching certificate.Linda taught a secretarial course at Soumi College and was a Teachers Aide at the South Range Elementary school for many years.On April 6, 1963, she was united in marriage to Bernard Bill Givens. The couple resided in Hancock, where they raised their five children. On October 23, 2003, Bill preceded her in death.Mrs. Givens was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, where she was active helping wherever help was needed. Linda enjoyed attending her grandchildrens events, visiting with family and friends, and telling stories with her dry sense of humor.Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband Bill; her son Barry; Her daughter Deborah; her brothers and sisters; Carl, Wilho, John, Paul, Venio and Linda.Surviving are:Her children: Pamela Givens of Hancock Chris (Deb Derrer) Givens of Traverse City, MI Greg (Wanda) Givens of Hancock Tim (Sheryl) Givens of HancockHer daughter-in-law: Laura Givens of HancockHer grandchildren: Cameron (Katie) Givens, Chelsea Murray, Taylor (Joe) Hyrkas, Cameron Murray, Bryce Givens, Trevor Givens, Jacob (Amanda Manninen) Givens, Tanner Givens, Willa Givens, and Kysa Givens.Her great-grandchild: Cason HyrkasNumerous nieces, nephews and cousinsFuneral services for Linda will be held 11 am Wednesday, February 9, 2022, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Rev. Brahm Semmler Smith to officiate.
