Obituary of Linda Karinen Marquette Linda Edna Maria Karinen, age 90, a resident of Snowberry Heights in Marquette, passed away on November 21, 2007 at her home with her family surrounding her. She was born on December 29, 1916, in Salo to the late Ivar and Anna (Pahikainen) Lindgren. Linda attended the Salo School and lived for most of her lifetime in Hancock. She married Jacob Karinen on May 5, 1937. Linda was employed by Portage Health Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock and attended St. Mark's Lutheran Church of Marquette for the last 10 years. She was actively involved in making quilts for Lutheran World Relief at both congregations. She enjoyed reading, knitting, crocheting, and spending time with her family. Linda was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob; three sons, Alvin, Darwin, and Billy, three sisters, Toini, Lempi, and Laina, and a brother Waino. Linda is survived by one daughter, Linda (Matt) Riipi of Marquette, two sons, Dennis (Carolyn) Karinen of Union, MO, Peter (Linda) Karinen of Pewaukee, WI, one daughter-in-law, JoAnn Karinen of Imlay City; ten grandchildren, 16 great grandchildren, two great-great grandchildren, numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. Licensed Lay Minister Clay Hilman will conduct Linda's funeral on November 24, 2007, at 3 p.m. in the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. Visitation will be held from 2 p.m. until time of services at the church on Saturday. Interment will be at the Lake View Cemetery of Calumet. Pallbearers will be Linda's grandchildren, Jon Karinen, Don Karinen, Mike Karinen, Shauna Hess, LuAnn Hebert, Dennis Karinen, Randy Karinen, Glenda Truce, and Erin Riipi. In lieu of flowers the family suggests contributions to the Lake Superior Hospice or Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly.
