Obituary of Lloyd Elmer Liljequist Hancock Lloyd E. Liljequest, 90, a well-known area resident formerly of Hancock and the Bluffs Senior Living Community passed away Sunday October 16, 2011, at the Omega House in Houghton following a lengthy illness. He was born on April 3, 1921, in Ironwood, MI, a son of the late Elmer and Irene (Backlund) Liljequist. He graduated from the Luther L. Wright High School in Ironwood and attended Michigan Technological University, graduating with many academic and social honors. During his time at MTU and after graduation, he worked on the Manhattan Project. While working at Union Carbide he assisted in many Silicone projects. On September 12, 1942, he was united in marriage to his beloved Ruth Jacobson in Hancock, MI, and Ruth preceded him in death on February 3, 2004. Lloyd was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock where he was active volunteering as church treasurer for over 20 years and a former member of Good Shephard Lutheran Church in New Martinsville, WV. He was a lifetime Lutheran serving God at the National, State, and local levels. He was a charter member of Sistersville (W.VA) Jr. Chamber of Commerce and, W.VA, he also was a charter member and first president elect of West Virgina Upper Ohio Valley AiChe. He was a Rotarian and proud to be a Paul Harris fellow with Rotary International. He was also a 20 years volunteer for Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, Preceding him in death were his beloved wife Ruth, his daughter Connie, his parents, his brother Dean Oliver Liljequist, and his sister Gertrude Liljequist. Surviving are: His children: Laura (Thomas) Ayers Gary (Mary) Liljequist His brother and best friend: Donald Liljequist Several nieces, nephews, and cousins A memorial service for Lloyd will be held 11 am Friday October 21, 2011, at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Pastor Clay Hilman to officiate. Friends may call on Friday October 21, 2011, from 10 am until time of services at the church. Thanks be to God for Lloyd's Service to the Lord. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Little Brothers friends of the Elderly, or to the Omega House in Houghton.
