Lois Seaton

January 14, 1930 — September 10, 2011

Obituary of Lois Seaton HancockLois Elizabeth (Isaac) Seaton, 81, passed away unexpectedly, though peacefully on September 10, 2011 while visiting her daughter in Vermont. She was born in Chicago, IL on January 14, 1930 to Pastor Edward and Tyyne (Kallio) Isaac. She was a graduate of Hancock High School, class of 1947 and Suomi College, class of 1950. She attended Swedish Hospital School of Nursing in Minneapolis, but left nursing school to get married. Lois always wanted to complete her degree, so in her 50's, she resumed her studies and graduated with a BA in Liberal Arts from St. Mary of the Woods College in Indiana.Lois married her high school sweetheart, Kenneth D. Seaton in Hancock on July 27, 1952. Ken and Lois moved a number of times as Ken completed his military service. They lived in Pensacola, FL, Corpus Christi, TX, and Alameda, CA. Eventually they returned to the Copper Country and settled in Hancock. She was currently active on the Finlandia International Alumni Board, Finnish Council in America, Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, PEO and Christian Women's Board. Lois was formerly on the Fortune Lake Bible Camp Board and Child and Family Services Board. She also volunteered at Portage Hospital, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly and supported the Pine Mountain Music Festival.Lois will always be remembered for her beautiful voice. She sang in the Gloria Dei church choir, the Copper Country Chorale, and helped form "The Mothers Three", a trio that performed at many local charitable events. She also taught her family many sauna songs, including Matti Poikka their favorite, and led them in singing grace before each meal.Lois was known for her love of music, sweets and her family, not necessarily in that order. Her sweet tooth, inherited from her mother, was legendary and she passed it on to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid bridge player and loved playing card and board games with her children and grandchildren. Lois enjoyed downhill skiing and golfing, until rheumatoid arthritis slowed her down. She had a wonderful sense of humor; she had to, having been married to Ken for all those years. Lois was loving and kind with a great faith in God. She was the heart of her family and will be missed dearly.Preceding her in death were her parents and a brother, Edward. She is survived by her husband of 59 years, Ken, and her 5 children: Tim (Kari) of Hancock and their children Tara (Corey) Packard, Brenna (Travis) Williams, Caitlin (Ryan) Tanner; Kimberly Seaton Hope of Traverse City and her children Ashleigh, Zachary and Abigail; Mary (Charlie) Brush of Charlotte, Vermont, their daughters Lindsay and Kelly; Shelby (Doug) Hamar of Hancock and their children Leslie and Reid; Shannon (David) Boyd of Northville, Michigan and their children Andy, Mary, Brendan and Libby, as well as 6 great grand children. She is also survived by a sister Eunice Keljo and a brother Paul (Susan) Isaac of Columbus, Ohio and many nieces and nephews.A memorial service for Lois will be held 11:00 am Saturday September 17, 2011, at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock with Pastor Clay Hilman to officiate.Friends may call on Friday September 16, 2011, from 5 to 8 pm at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church and on Saturday from 10 am until time of services at the church. The family wishes expressions of sympathy to take the form of contributions to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church, Finlandia University, Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly, Kelly Brush Foundation or a charity of your choice. To view Lois's obituary or to send condolences to the family please visit www.memorialchapel.netThe Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock has been assisting the family with the arrangements.Service Information To send flowers to the family of Lois Seaton, please visit Tribute Store
