Obituary of Lucille Aittama MRS
ChassellLucille L. Aittama, 83, a resident of Chassell passed away Wednesday evening January 15, 2014, at the Winona House of Portage Pointe in Hancock where she had resided since this past November.Lucille was born on August 13, 1930, in East Gary, IN, a daughter of the late Folke and Laina (Mantta) Nelson. She was a graduate of East Gary High School with the class of 1948. She then graduated from Soumi College in 1950, Eastern Michigan University in 1952 and received her Master's Degree in Education in 1964 from Eastern Michigan University.On June 6, 1953, she was united in marriage to Philip Aittama in Detroit, MI. The couple had resided in the Detroit area for 22 years where Lucille taught in the Redford Township and Westland Schools. Since 1975, she has made her home in Chassell and had taught in the Chassell Township Schools. On November 21, 1982, Phil preceded her in death. Mrs. Aittama was a very active member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell where she had played the organ, sang in the church choir, and was the church secretary for 26 years. She also was a life member of Post #6507 VFW Auxiliary of Chassell. Post #6507 VFW Auxiliary of Chassell will hold honors Monday January 20, 2014,, at 1:45 pm at the church. Spring burial will be in the Elo Cemetery.Friends may call on Monday January 20, 2014, from 12 noon until time of services at the church. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell or to the PortagePointe activity fund in memory of Lucy Aittama.
