Obituary of Lydia Elvira Korpi Chassell Lydia E. Korpi, 88, a resident of Massie Rd., Chassell, passed away Tuesday evening, January 10, 2006, at the Portage Health Systems Hospital in Hancock where she had been a patient for the past week, following a lengthy illness. Lydia was born on October 12, 1917, in Arnheim, a daughter of the late Oscar and Anna (Wayrynen) Komula. She attended the Arnheim School and was a graduate of the Baraga Schools. On August 12, 1939, she was united in marriage to Frederick Korpi at the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell. He preceded her in death on April 17, 1997. In 1960 Lydia and her husband built the Pow Wow Restaurant (Chippewa Restaurant) which they owned and operated until there retirement in 1976. In retirement she moved with her husband to Colorado Spring where she resided for 22 years before moving back to Chassell in 2002 to care for her sister Sylvia. Lydia was a loving grandmother an avid enthusiast of needlework, playing bingo, bowler and attending garage sales. Preceding her in death were her husband, parents, 6 Brothers, William, Eino, Jack, Waino, Earl, & John Komula, and 4 Sisters Mrs. Ida Hilbert, Mrs. Ilene Junttila, Mrs. Ann Lescelius, Mrs. and Mrs. Sylvia Aho . Surviving are: 2 Sons: Dennis (Vicki) Korpi of Kalaheo, HI Larry (Tonja) Korpi of Colorado 3 Grandchildren: Fredrick, Casey, and Phillip Korpi all of Creede, CO 1 Sister: Helen Barkkari of the Bluff's Senior Living Community of Houghton A memorial service for Lydia will be held 1 P.M. this Saturday January 14, 2006, at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Ted Koehl to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Nisula Cemetery. Following the service, the family invites all to join them in the fellowship of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church for a light lunch in Lydia's memory.
