Obituary of Mae Wiitanen Houghton Mrs. Mae E. (Melvin) Wiitanen, 80, a former resident of Green Acres Rd., Houghton, passed away early Tuesday morning November 15, 2005, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock, where she had been a resident patient for the past 4 years. The former Mae Emma Raisanen was born in Redridge on May 6, 1925, a daughter of the late August and Lena (Rothlesberger) Raisanen. She graduated as Solutatorian of her Class at Houghton High School and also was a graduate of the former Suomi College of Hancock. She worked as an Account Supervisor for the Detrex Chemical Corporation for 34 years and also for the I.R.S. On October 22, 1949, she was united in marriage to K. Melvin Wiitanen. Mrs. Wiitanen was a member of the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock, and also formerly of the Bethlehem Lutheran Church of the Detroit area. Preceding her in death were her parents; 1 Sister, Emma; and 2 brothers, Emil and Harold. Surviving are: Her husband: K. Melvin of Houghton 1 Brother: Alfred Raisanen of Redford, Michigan Numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins Funeral services will be held Thursday November 17, 2005, at 11 A.M. at the Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock with the Rev. Susan Odegard & Jimalee Jones to officiate. Spring burial will be at the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. Friends may call at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock from 5 to 8 P.M. on Wednesday and for 1 hour prior to services at the church on Thursday.
