Obituary of Margaret Irene Asiala Hancock Margaret I. Asiala, 90, a resident of Hancock passed away Wednesday evening September 10, 2008, at the Omega House in Houghton where she was a resident for the past two days. She was born on September 12, 1917, in Hancock a daughter of the late Oscar and Aina (Wuopio) Nordstrom. Margaret was a graduate of the Hancock High School and attended Suomi College. On October 9, 1937 she was united in marriage to Oliver Asiala and he preceded her in death on August 26, 1982. Mrs. Asiala was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, and her siblings, Helen Dever, Arthur Nordstrom, Esther Moll, Peter Nordstrom, Ferdinand Nordstrom, and Elaine Heinonen. Surviving are: Her children: Joni (Jerry) Pietila of Houghton Canal Joe (Kathy) Asiala of South Range Bob (Carol) Asiala of Hancock 22 grandchildren and 84 great grandchildren 2 sisters: Eva Offut of Oklahoma City, OK Pauline Heinonen of Hancock 2 in-laws: Ina Nordstrom of Hancock Edward (Lana) Heinonen of Laurium Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Margaret will be held 11 a.m. Saturday September 13, 2008, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Richard Eskola to officiate. Burial will be in the Mt. View Cemetery of South Range. Friends may call on Friday September 12, 2008, from 4 to 8 p.m. at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church and on Saturday from 10 am until time of services.
