Obituary of Margaret Carlson Hancock Margaret (Marge) E. Carlson, 89, passed away at the Winona House of Portage Pointe on February 11, 2010. She had just recently celebrated her 89th birthday with many family members and friends by her side.Margaret, the youngest daughter of the late Desire and Mary Bruneau, was born on January 31, 1921, in Chassell and graduated from the Chassell High School in 1938. She married Donald H. Carlson on May 1, 1944. He preceded her in death on January 5, 1999. Margaret lived in Hancock in her home which she loved so dearly for over 50 years. She then resided at the Bluffs in Houghton from 2006 to 2008 and for the last two years has been a resident of Winona House at Portage Pointe. She will be remembered for her beautiful smile and sense of humor which brightened so many lives.Margaret was employed in food service at St. Joseph's Hospital in Hancock for a number of years, first working in the kitchen and later as a cashier in the cafeteria where she enjoyed serving the people, always with a smile.She was a lifelong member of the Church of the Resurrection. Her faith was the center of her being and she said the rosary nightly for her special grandson, David, who has been in ill health and whom she loved so dearly. She was a wonderful mother and grandmother.All who knew Marge remember her as a kind and giving person. She loved her family and friends and was happiest when she was in her kitchen baking or preparing meals for them. She was an excellent cook and baker. She was well known for many years at her church bazaars for her delicious coffee cakes which she had so many requests for.She is survived by one daughter, Mary Beth (Ron) Mikkola of Hancock and three sons, James (Karen) of Okemos, MI, Robert (Mary) of Green Bay, WI, and Thomas (Kathy) of DePere, WI; 13 grandchildren - David, Daniel (Trina), Michael (Lisa), Julie (Tim), Jason, Cheryl (Mike), Christine (Dennis), Ryan, Kate, Anna, Jeffery, Matthew, and Amy. She is also survived by 8 great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews, all who were dear to her, and a very special niece, Mary Ann Davis, of Hancock.Besides her parents and husband, Margaret was preceded in death by 14 brothers and sisters; Opal, Beatrice, Marie, Eva, Victoria, Dora, Arthur, James, Paul, Richard, Clyde, and three who died as infants.A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at the Church of the Resurrection on Monday, February 15, 2010, at 11am with the main celebrant Fr. Augustin George and Co-Celebrant Fr. Dan Debano, nephew of Margaret to officiate.Friends may call at the church on Monday from 10 am until time of services at the church.Interment will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton in the spring.In Lieu of other expressions of sympathy, memorials may be given to the Portage Pointe Enhancement Fund, The Church of the Resurrection, or the charity of their choice.The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Portage Pointe and to Dr. Bill Anderson for the loving care they gave Marge.
