Obituary of Margaret Glennon Houghton Margaret Glennon, 104, a charter resident of the Bluffs Senior Living Community in Houghton, MI, passed away Wednesday evening January 13, 2010. For the past two weeks, she had been a patient at the Omega House in Houghton. She was born on March 19, 1905, in Menomonie WI, to Ragnhild (Olsen) and Gunder Hansen. Margaret grew up in Menomonie and graduated from Menomonie High School in 1923. She continued her education at the University of WI at Eau Claire earning a teaching certificate in 1925 and later a BS degree in Elementary Education. Margaret taught in Westboro, WI and then in Menomonie until 1937. She married John Glennon on December 29, 1937 in Waukon, Iowa and they resided in Herculaneum, MO until moving to Rice Lake, WI and Chippewa Falls, WI in 1945. There she taught second grade at the Ninth Ward-Southview grade school from 1953 until retiring in 1970. They moved to Houghton, MI in 1993 to be near their daughter. While living in Chippewa, Margaret was a charter member of Christ Lutheran Church, The Women's Club, Retired Teachers' Association, and the Senior Citizens' Club. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband in 1997, her brothers Earling and Harold Hansen, a niece and three nephews. Surviving are her daughter and son-in-love, Margaret Ann "Maggie" and Steve Vanek of Houghton; two sisters-in-law DeLores Hansen of Menomonie and Caroline Glennon of White Fish Bay, WI; three nephews and their families. Funeral services for Margaret will be held Tues. January 19, 2010 at 1:30 PM at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Houghton with Rev. Bucky Beach to officiate. Burial will be in Forrest Hill Cemetery of Chippewa. Friends may call on Monday January 18, 2010 from 2 to 6 PM at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock, MI or one hour prior to the service at the church. As expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials to Good Shepherd Lutheran Church or the Omega House.
