Obituary of Margaret Kotila Houghton, Margaret Kotila, 97, a former resident of the Douglas House in Houghton, passed away Thursday morning September 25, 2014, at the Winona House of Portage Pointe in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past three years. She was born on February 23, 1917, in Hancock, a daughter of the late Philip and Mary (Markovich) Chopp. Margaret was raised in Coburntown and attended the Pewabic School. In 1933, she was united in marriage to Benjamin Kotila. The couple raised seven children and resided on Quincy Hill. Mrs. Kotila began working in the housekeeping department at the Copper Crown before becoming a CNA. She then began working at Cypress Manor Nursing home where she retired as a supervisor after 19 years. Margaret loved to spend time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She also enjoyed traveling, shopping, dancing and having fun. Preceding her in death where her sons; Philip and Gil, her parents, her sisters; Mary Lampinen and Catherine Walley, her brother John Chopp and her former husband .
