Obituary of Margaret Mattila ToivolaMargaret A. Mattila, 79, a resident of Toivola passed away at home Wednesday morning January 4, 2012.She was born on April 18, 1932, in Tapiola, MI, a daughter of the late Victor Petrelius and Anna (Torro) Petrelius-Plough. As a child, she attended the Doelle School. On December 17, 1949, she was united in marriage to Walfred Melvin Mattila. The couple moved to Toivola where Margaret has resided for the past sixty years. They owned & operated a dairy farm in Toivola for many years. On July 7, 1984, Melvin preceded her in death.Mrs. Mattila was a member of the Toivola Apostolic Lutheran Church and she taught Sunday school for many years. She also translated articles for the Finnish American Reporter.Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, her brothers; Edsel & Richard, her sister, Ruth and daughter-in-law Callie and many other loved ones.Surviving are: Her children: Mark Mattila of ToivolaRebecca (Garry) Hoekstra of ToivolaJohn (Diane) Mattila of ToivolaDavid (Lisa) Mattila of PainesdaleHer grandchildren: Jamie (Russell) Kinnunen, Dan (Jeanine) Dolan, Jaclyn (Ryan) Finkbeiner, Maggie Wallenslager, Sarah Hoekstra, Joanna (Jeremy) Chopp, Zachary Hoekstra, Jennifer (Wayne) Laitala, Ryan, Susan, Jason, Katie, Stacey, Amanda, Justin and Kyle Mattila.Her great grandchildren: Marissa, Brittany, Kaylee and Danielle Dolan, Logan, Ashlynn, Brooklyn, Emberlyn, Tiergan, and Ivelynn Finkbeiner, Daniel and Dallen Wallenslager, Miina and Amelia Chopp, Grace and Connor Laitala.Her sisters: Dorothy Maki and Hazel TepsaHer brothers: Robert (Evy) Petrelius and Donald (Carol) PetreliusHer sisters-in-law: Carol (Robert) Deede, Laura (Hiram) Moseley, Melanie MattilaHer brothers-in-law: Leo (Marian) Mattila, Gordon (Marjorie) Mattila, Sanfred (Pat) Mattila and Alvin (Lydia) MattilaHer aunt: Irene (Leonard) PeltoSpecial ämmi to Christian and Anders Kurtti.Many nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.Funeral Services for Margaret will be held 11 am Monday January 9, 2012, at the South Range Apostolic Lutheran Church with Pastor Kenneth Storm to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Toivola Cemetery.Friends may call on Sunday January 8, 2012, from 3 to 7 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock and on Monday from 10 am until time of services at the church.In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be given to: Hope Lodge of Marshfield, 611 W.
