Obituary of Margaret Noble Margaret "Mugs" Marie Noble Passed into the arms of the Lord on August 20, 2013. Born on September 2, 1922 in Kalamazoo, Michigan to John and Buelah (Calkins) Mapes. Margaret was a graduate of Vicksburg (Michigan) High School and attended Western Michigan University of Kalamazoo, Michigan for one year. She graduated from the Edward W. Sparrow Hospital School of Nursing in Lansing, Michigan as a registered nurse. In 1945 she married Jack Thurman. Mrs. Noble was predeceased by her husband Charles E. Noble whom she married in 1973, sister Ardith Weston, and son-in-law, Joseph R. Berish. She is survived by two daughters Sandra Kay (Jim Magnan) Berish of Kalamazoo, Michigan and Terri Lynn (Wayne) Martin of L'Anse Michigan, stepson Charles (Sue) Noble, grandchildren Stephanie (John) Eckley and Joseph (Erin) Berish. Mrs. Noble was blessed with three great-grandchildren Abram and Willson Eckley and Hudson Berish. She is also survived by her dear friend, Betty I. Thurman of Naples, Florida and several stepchildren and step grandchildren, and cherished friends too numerous to name. Margaret Noble resided in Kalamazoo County, Michigan for much of her life where she worked as a registered nurse and later as a restaurateur. She and Chuck lived in Richland for many years where they enjoyed golf, bowling, fishing, snowmobiling and entertaining friends and family. Many remember her as co-owner and operator of Jack Thurman's Restaurant once located in downtown Kalamazoo. She was a great cook and her legacy is many treasured family recipes and memories of Thurman's daily specials. Mrs. Noble lived for several years in Naples, Florida and later moved back to Michigan to be close to her family. She was a kidney dialysis patient for many years at the Western U.P. Dialysis Center. Her final residence was at The Bluffs of Houghton, Michigan. She was a member of the L'Anse United Methodist Church of L'Anse, Michigan. Friends called Margaret Noble "Mugs" and later "Mugsie." She said her mother called her that because she liked to "mug" for the camera. No wonder, as she was a beautiful person both inside and out. A memorial service may be planned for a later date.
