Obituary of Marilyn Dewald Franklin Twp. Marilyn E. Dewald, 67, presently a resident of Franklin Twp., and formerly of Ludington, passed away Friday evening, Aug. 27, 2004, at her home where she has been a resident for the past 2 years on Blessant Rd., Hancock after a courageous battle with Cancer. The former Marilyn Elma Martin was born in Detroit, on April 8, 1937, a daughter of Agnes O. (Erdman) Martin and the late Ervin C. Martin.. She moved with her family at a young age to a farm near New Haven, MI, where she attended St. John Lutheran School, and the New Haven Public Schools graduating from New Haven High School in 1955 as valedictorian of her class. She then graduated from Central Michigan University in 1959, with a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Elementary Education & and a Master of Arts Degree in 1971. In 1983, she then received an Associate Degree in Business Accounting from West Shore Community College in Scottville, MI. She also studied to be a lay minister at Michigan Lutheran Ministries. She was married to Carl E. Dewald on June 25, 1960. She taught elementary classes in West Virginia; Ohio; and Michigan including 1960-61 at the Elementary School in Hancock, MI. Currently she was a member of S.S. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church of Hancock. Marilyn was a member of the Lutheran Church where she lived and served on various boards and committees, as Sunday School Teacher & Superintendent; financial secretary & treasurer. She also was a dedicated member of Lutheran Women Missionary League and served in the offices at the society and zone level. Marilyn joined the Kiwanis Club of Ludington, MI in 1996, & became distinguished President and a George F. Hixson Fellow, & currently was a member of the Kiwanis Club of the Copper Country. She was also an avid reader, and enjoyed working crossword & jigsaw puzzles. She loved nature, was a bird watcher, and an amature wildflower photographer. She did a variety of crafts including making banners for the churches to which she was a member. Preceding her in death was her father, Ervin Martin Surviving are: her husband, Carl 2 Sons: Dale K. (Marilynn, M.D.) Dewald of Hancock Duane Scott (Rosemarie) Dewald of Dallas, TX. 2 Grandchildren: Alexander & Suzanne Dewald of Hancock Her mother: Agnes Martin of New Haven, MI 2 Sisters: Eileen (Melvin) Spens of New Haven, MI Sandra (David) Smith of New Haven, MI 1 Brother: Kenneth Martin of New Haven, MI Several Aunts, Uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins, and many special friends. Funeral services will be Tuesday, August 31, 2004, at 11 A.M. in S.S.. Peter & Paul Lutheran Church of Hancock, with the Rev. David Weber to officiate. Burial to be in the Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. Friends may call at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock, on Monday from 6 to 8 P.M. and from 10 A.M. until time of services at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests memorials may be given to the Dorcas/LWMI. Society of S.S..
