Obituary of Marion Verran Hurontown Marion E. Verran, 86, a former resident of Hurontown passed away Monday morning April 5, 2010, at the Omega House in Houghton. Marion was born on May 26, 1923, in Portage Township, a daughter of the late Edward and Edna (Nordstrom) Medlyn. She was a graduate of Houghton High School. On June 8, 1946, she was united in marriage to Richard H. (Hank) Verran who preceded her in death on August 12, 1969. Mrs. Verran was a member of Grace United Methodist Church of Houghton. Marion loved spending time with her family and reading books. Preceding her in death were her husband, her parents, three brothers, and one sister. Surviving are: Her children: Marjorie (James) Olson of Harrington, DE Elizabeth (Glenn) Comfort of Houghton, MI Florence (Jerry) Oberlander of Chesterton, IN Kathryn (Dennis) Minor of Livonia, MI Richard H. Verran of Houghton, MI Her grandchildren: James Olson Jr., Eric Olson, Christina Parsons, Karen Karinen, Brian Comfort, Ben Oberlander, Betsy Oberlander, Timothy Minor, Erin Lynch, Matthew Minor, Joshua Minor, David Minor, Richard Verran III, and Jamie Verran Her great grandchildren: Jessica Battisfore, Hayley Karinen, Erica Olson, Casey Olson, Hannah Olson, Rachel Parsons, Benjamin Parsons, Mary Oberlander, Liam Oberlander, Lucas Minor, Charlotte Minor, Jonah Minor, Edward Minor, Alayna Verran, and Lillian Verran Her sisters: Jean Medlyn, Nina Cox Her sister-in-laws: Melba Medlyn, Jeanette Medlyn and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service for Marion will be held at 11 am Friday, April 9, 2010, at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Robert Paul to officiate. Burial will be in the Forest Hill Cemetery of Houghton. Friends may call Friday, April 9, 2010, from 10 am until time of services at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorials be given to Cypress Manor Nursing Home, The Omega House, or the charity of your choice in memory of Marion E. Verran.
