Martha Coponen

Obituary of Martha Coponen Atlantic Mine Martha Ann Coponen, 96, a resident of Atlantic Mine, passed away late Wednesday evening, April 7, 2004, at Portage Pointe in Hancock , where she was a resident patient for seven days. The former Martha Ann Jarvi was born in Finland, on June 6, 1907, a daughter of the late Isaac & Anna (Palokangas) Jarvi. At the age of 2, she came to the U.S., and at the age of 4 moved from South Range to Minnesota. She later resided in the Detroit area, where she was employed by the Herman Keifer Hospital. She later resided at Arbor Green in Houghton for 11 years. In 1926, she was united in marriage to Urho Coponen, and he preceded her in death in 1973. Martha was a member of the Atlantic Mine Apostolic Lutheran Church. Also preceding her in death was a son, Wallace in 1989; her second husband: Walter Coponen in 1982; 6 grandchildren & 3 Great Grandchildren & 1 Great Great Grand child. Surviving are: 3 Sons: William (Helen) Coponen of Atlantic Mine David ( Corrine) Coponen of Chassell Douglas (Donna) Coponen of Greer, South Carolina 6 Daughters: Mrs. Helen (the late, Oswald) Alaperet of Lantana, Florida Mrs. Hazel (Wilfred) Torvinen of Houghton Mrs. Gloria (Wallace) Riutta of Chassell Mrs. Gladys (Pete) Bartkus of Brighton Mrs. Verna (Harold) LaMothe of Kenosha, WI Mrs. Virginia (Larry) Keteri of Atlantic Mine 1 Daughter-in-law: Janet Coponen of Houghton 70 Grandchildren 283 Great Grandchildren & 39 Great Great Grandchildren 1 Half Brother: Richard Santti of Duluth, Minnesota numerous nieces, nephews, & cousins Funeral services will be held Saturday, April 10, 2004, at 1 P.M. in the Atlantic Mine Apostolic Lutheran Church with Nathan Ruonavaara to officiate. Spring burial to be in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday at the church from 11 A.M. until time of services. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests memorials may be given to the Atlantic Mine Apostolic Lutheran Church.
