Obituary of Martha Grant Elo Martha Elvira Grant, 89, went peacefully to be with the Lord on December 6, 2009 at her home in Elo with her loving sons at her side.Martha was born in Oskar Bay on May 22, 1920 and was the daughter of John and Hilda (Olli) Ollila. Martha lived in Oskar Bay and Hancock prior to moving to Elo where she became the step-daughter of Esa Keippela.She married James Arnold Grant on July 6, 1943 in Pacific Grove, CA while he was stationed at Fort Ord during World War II. Theirs was a love affair that lasted 50 years until his passing in 1994.She was a resident of Alston and Baraga prior to moving permanently to Elo in 1975. Martha was a homemaker for her family where she showered them with love and taught them strength and faith. She will be remembered for her homemade bread and bakery by all who were fortunate enough to visit her home. Her home was always open to all of the neighborhood to play. She was a loving mother who treated her children's friends as her own. She was an avid reader who loved history, the Civil War, mysteries and Abraham Lincoln. Martha was a member of the Apostolic Lutheran Church of Tapiola.Martha is survived by her loving sons and caretakers, James Jr. and Steven of Elo, daughters Jean Hayden of Ceresco and Gayle (Doug) Isaacson of Pelkie and Daughters-in-law Jackie (Wayne) Jaakkola of Elo and Debbie (Jim) Bennett of Baraga. She is survived by her grandsons Scott and Louis (Cathi) Deschaine, Michael (Liberty) and Philip (Lisa) Grant, Jason (Nicholle) and Chad (Stephanie) Grant, and DJ and Jake Isaacson, Cheryl (Brian) Young, Kurt (Kailee) Hayden, Jim (Michelle) Bennett, Danielle Bennett and by great-grandchildren Matt, Michael, Deacon, Trenton, Kyleigh, Evan, Caden, Jayla, Todd, Megan, Erin, Colin, Morgan and Ryan. Martha is also survived by sister-in-law Margaret Ollila of Detroit and numerous nieces and nephews. Her other son Alan Anderson.She was preceded in death by her husband, parents, son Curtis Grant, son-in-law Don Hayden, grandsons Grant and Nate Deschaine, granddaughter Amanda Grant and 9 sisters and 5 brothers.Funeral services for Martha will be held 1 pm Friday December 11, 2009, at the Tapiola Apostolic Lutheran Church with Pastor Ken Storm to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Elo Cemetery.
