Obituary of Martha Hermanson Oskar Bay Martha J. Hermanson, 96, a former resident of the Oskar Bay passed away Saturday evening March 2, 2013, at the Medora House of Portage Pointe in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past six years. She was born on May 23, 1916, in Heinola, MI, a daughter of the late Jack and Edna (Dorvinen) Ruohonen. Martha attended the Houghton Canal School thru the 10th grade and later returned to take adult classes and graduated in 1969 from Jeffers High School. On May 25, 1935, she was united in marriage to Harold Hermanson and in July of 2002 he preceded her in death. Mrs. Hermanson was a sales clerk for JCPenney until retiring and beginning a career as an artist in the area. Martha loved to paint and was active with the Copper Country Association of Artists and the Copper Country Community Arts Council. She also was an active member of Grace Lutheran Church of South Range. Preceding her in death were her husband Harold, her daughter; Linda Jo Morley, her parents, her sisters; Esther Kahkonen, Marie Bradshaw, Rose Langen, Sylvia Sampson, Mayme Cobb, Florence Ruohonen and her brothers Hjalmer, Paul, Peter and Fred. Surviving are: Her son: Donald O. Hermanson of Houghton Canal Her grandsons: Jeff Morley, Matthew Morley, Timothy Morley and Joshua Morley. Her great grandchildren: Eli, Zane, Grace, Christopher, Calvin, Jonathan and Elizabeth Her son-in-law: Fred (Darlene) Morley Her sister: Aili (William) Dunstan of Houghton Canal Her sisters-in-law: Midge Ruohonen, Barbara Ruohonen and Irene Ruohonen Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. Funeral services for Martha will be held 11 am Thursday March 7, 2013, at Grace Lutheran Church of South Range with Rev. Sally Wilke to officiate. Friends may call on Wednesday March 6, 2013, from 4 to 7 pm at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock and on Thursday from 10 am until time of services at the Grace Lutheran Church of South Range.
