Obituary of Martha Poyhonen Hancock Martha M. Poyhonen, 85, a resident of Hancock passed away at home Wednesday evening January 20, 2010, following a short illness. She was born on December 18, 1924, a daughter of the late Oscar and Wilhelmina (Tapani) Poyhonen. Martha was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1942. Ms. Poyhonen had worked first for the Book Concern Printers in Hancock and then in the Registrar's Office for Michigan Technological University. Martha was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton. Preceding her in death were her parents, 5 sisters and 1 brother. Surviving are: Her sisters and brother; Elvie Abramson a resident patient of the Houghton Coutny Medical Care Facility Ina Nordstrom of Hancock Lillian Kilpela of Hancock Ruth Jurmu of Hancock Ray (Dorothy) Poyhonen of Hancock 55 nieces & nephews, numerous great nieces and great nephews. Funeral services for Martha will be held 11am Saturday January 23, 2010, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton with Richard Eskola to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Friday January 22, 2010 from 4 to 8:00 at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Houghton and on Saturday from 10:00 am until time of services at the church.
