Obituary of Martha Edith Simmons HOUGHTON - Martha E. Simmons, 93, a resident of Pilgrim Road, Houghton, passed away peacefully at her home on Tuesday afternoon, August 28, 2007. She was born in Calumet, Michigan, on October 21, 1913, a daughter of the late Amanda Larson and John Wineka. Martha moved to the Detroit area at an early age, and on October 20 1935, she married Archie Simmons. Martha worked in various housekeeping jobs and at Awry's Bakery and the A&P Bakery. During the war effort, she worked at the Packard Airplane Assembly. During the early 1960's Martha and her husband moved to California where she worked in Los Angeles at The Tape Labeling Gun factory. Prior to retirement, and moving to the Houghton area, she also lived in Belleville, Michigan. Since 1974, she made her home on Pilgrim Road. Martha was preceded in Death by her husband Archie in 1995 and also preceded in death by 6 brothers and two sisters. Surviving are one daughter June Floyd of Houghton and two grandsons Dan Rosandich of Houghton and Jim Floyd of Dodgeville; several nieces, nephews. Also special friends Mary and Ron Csiki of Schoolcraft twp. and Erlene and Robert Reed of Osceola Twp. Private Funeral services are being held at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock, with Judy Mattson officiating.
