Chassell
Martha Jane Sohlden was called home to our Lord on December 15, 2025 after an extended illness. Thankfully, she was visited by many of her family members in the fall of 2025 with meaningful interaction. This included her sharing sweet memories and hugs. She was sharp enough to identify photos and tell us about family history.
She was born October 31,1949 to William and Margaret Plank and was the youngest of six children. Martha, to all who knew her, was a unique and caring individual who was generous with her time. She always had a smile to share.
She grew up in Tennessee and later lived in south Florida before moving with husband Dennis to Chassell, Michigan. They happily lived there on the family farm her remaining years.
Martha excelled in the art of baking and also in taking care of children. In her younger years, she was a nanny for the family of renowned golfer Jack Nicklaus.
She married Dennis A. Sohlden in 1984 and raised 3 loving children: Jerry, Mery and David. Martha was a hard worker who additionally filled her hours making circuit boards using large computers. She took her two older children with her on the weekends, instilling a strong work ethic.
Martha became a mother for the third time and embraced being a stay at home mom. Martha found the love of baking. She enjoyed selling her baked goods, as well as homemade jams, from her home and also at farmers markets and craft shows.
Martha loved the holidays and loved decorations including for her Halloween birthday.
She was preceded in death by her parents William and Margaret Plank, sisters Ann and Willie, as well as brothers Horace, Vernon and Charles.
She is survived by her children Jerry and his wife Tina, Mery and her husband Federico, and son David and partner Kendra.
