Obituary of Marvin Ralph Mayra HANCOCK ? Marvin R. Mayra, 73, a resident of Elevation St., Hancock, passed away Friday afternoon, June 22, 2007, following a period of chronic lung illness at Portage Health Hospital in Hancock where he had been a patient for the past two weeks. He was born on October 17, 1933 in Hancock, a son of the late Ronald and Aune (Raisanen) Mayra. He attended and graduated from Hancock High School. On May 29, 1954, he was united in marriage to the former Gloria Aho and they celebrated over 53 years of a happy and fruitful marriage. Marvin was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock. Marvin had been retired since 1994 from the Upper Peninsula Power Company where he had worked as a lineman. Since his stroke in 1993, life for Marvin had been a challenge. Even though the right side of his body was partially paralyzed, he still had an exuberance for life and could make people smile or laugh. He could talk to anyone, stranger or friend, and immediately they would feel comfortable and welcomed. Marvin was a sports enthusiast, playing hockey himself. Over the years, he enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren participate in various sports. He was an avid Detroit Red Wings, Lions, Pistons and Tigers fan. Preceding him in death were his parents; two brothers; one sister. Surviving are his wife, Gloria, of Hancock; two children, Michael (Lisa) Mayra of Troy, Mich. and Lyn (Douglas) Owsiak of Delafield, Wis.; grandchildren, Nickolas (Kristine) Mayra, Jeffrey (Lesley) Mayra, Nina Mayra, Michael Owsiak, Sarah Mayra and Rachael Owsiak; great-grandson, Noah Mayra; several nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service for Marvin will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, June 26, 2007 at Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock with Rev. Jimalee Jones to officiate. Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery in Hancock. Friends may call on Tuesday at the church from 10 a.m. until time of services. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests memorials be given to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church in Hancock.
