Mary B. Harju, 96, a resident of Portage Pointe and former Dollar Bay resident, passed away on Friday, December 5, 2025, at the Pewabic House of Portage Pointe in Hancock.

Mary was born on November 25, 1929, in Mohawk, MI to the late Charles and Odivine (Duhaime) Goulette. She attended the Mohawk School.

On May 5, 1949, Mary was united in marriage to Reino “Ray” Harju. They made their home in Dollar Bay for 23 years while raising their daughter Brenda Lee. Ray preceded Mary in death on June 29, 1972.

Mary had a kind and loving heart, a strong faith in God, and was grateful for her family and many friends. She worked at Portage View Hospital as a housekeeper for many years. Following retirement, she became involved with Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly. Mary loved visiting people and Little Brothers became an instrumental part of her life, enjoying many social events for years. A picture of her appeared on the cover of their annual report.

Mary was a loving wife, mom, grandma, great-grandma, sister, aunt, and friend.

Besides her parents and husband, Mary was preceded in death by her brothers; Charles and Joesph (Rose) Goulette, sisters; Arzalia (Wallace) Olkkonen, Theresa (Fred) Zerbst, and Virginia (George) Thurner.

She is survived by her daughter, Brenda Dulong of Green Bay, WI

Her granddaughter, Amber R. (Tyler) Meyer of Chapin, SC

Great-grandchildren: Travis Meyer of Indiana

Austin Meyer of Indiana

Renee Meyer of South Carolina

Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A celebration of Mary’s life will take place in the Spring at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Hancock.

On behalf of Mary, her daughter and granddaughter, Thank you to all of “The Angels” who took such wonderful care of her while at Portage Pointe.

In Lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family suggests that memorial donations be given to Little Brothers Friends of the Elderly in memory of Mary Harju.
