Obituary of Mary Louise Mickelsen Chassell Mary Lou (James) Mickelsen, 82, of Chassell, passed away on Wednesday, April 4, 2012 at Our Lady of Mercy Health and Rehab in Hubbell, following a lengthy illness. She was born on April 27, 1929, in Hancock a daughter of the late Walter and Lillian (Ahola) Heikkila. Mary Lou was a graduate of the Hancock High School with the class of 1947. She also graduated from Michigan Technological University with a degree in Medical Technology. On April 8, 1950, she was united in marriage to James Andrew Mickelsen. The couple had resided in Bloomfield Hills, MI, until returning to make their home in the Copper Country in 2008. Mary Lou received her master's and specialist degree in Chemistry from Wayne State University. She taught at Cranbrook and then for 25 years at the Lahser High School in Bloomfield Hills, retiring in 1995. Mrs. Mickelsen was very active with the Southfield and Northville Apostolic Lutheran Churches where she was the church organist/pianist for over 50 years, taught Sunday School and led different women's groups through the years. Preceding her in death were her parents, her sister Margaret Olsen and her granddaughter Mary Elizabeth Mickelsen. Surviving are: Her husband: James Mickelsen of Chassell Her children: Dr. Thomas Mickelsen Robert (Tess) Mickelsen Rebecca (Stan) Kozyra Her grandchildren: Jessica Mickelsen, James Mickelsen, Jennifer(Craig) Kozyra Leduc, Erik Kozyra, Craig Mickelsen & Eirrin Cunningham Her In-laws: Joyce Tibbs, Norma (Robert) Nominelli, Fayth (Ross) Wolfe, David (Marilyn) Mickelsen, Mark (Gail) Johnson Cousins: Betty (Orville) Hakala, Frtiz (Agnes) Ahola, Charlene Ahola, Chris Ahola, Jon (Carole) Ahola and Joan (Phil) Rouse Many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. Funeral services for Mary Lou will be held 11 am Saturday April 14, 2012, at the Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock with Revs. Gerald Southerton and Arvo Onermaa to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. Friends may call on Friday April 13, 2012, from 5 to 8 pm at the Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock and on Saturday from 10 am until time of services at the church.
