Obituary of Mary Pennington Hancock Mary Irene Pennington, 88, passed away Sunday February 13, 2011, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient. She was born on August 13, 1922, in Walton-Le-Dale, England, the daughter of the late Charles and Gladys (Short) Littlefair. Irene was a graduate of the local Catholic high school. On June 10, 1943, she was united in marriage to Harry Pennington. Together, the couple moved to the United States in 1947. Irene was employed as a bookkeeper and worked full time for much of her life. They resided in St. Clair Shores, MI. Sarasota, FL. and for the past six years, locally, in the Copper Country. Harry preceded Irene in death on July 21, 1985. She and Harry also belonged to the English Club and were avid golfers while in Florida. In later years, Irene enjoyed water color painting and ball room dancing. Surviving are: Her daughters: Mary Lynn (Dale) Anderson of Marquette and Catherine Laura Shudra of Ripley. Her grandchildren: Emily Anderson, Katherine (Joe) Fair, Matthew St. Germaine, Jason (Zulema) St. Germaine, Megan St. Germaine and Jon Shudra. She had three great grandchildren with more to come.
