Obituary of Matthew Elmer Usimaki Ripley Matthew E. Usimaki, 98, a resident of Royce Rd., Ripley, passed away Saturday afternoon November 4, 2006. He was born in Jacobsville, MI, on August 31, 1908, a son of Matt and Marion Usimaki. He attended the Ripley School. On August 21, 1937, he was united in marriage to the former Sylvia Korhonen and she preceded him in death on October 15, 2003. Matt was a member of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock. He was a member of the Michigan Association of Retired School Personnel. Mr. Usimaki was employed at the former Portage Lake Foundry and Machine Company of Ripley until its closing in 1946. He was then employed as a Laboratory Technician of the Metallurgy Department by Michigan Technological University from 1946 until his retirement in 1974. He was preceded in death by his wife Sylvia his parents, 2 Sisters and 3 Brothers. Surviving are: 1 Daughter: Barbara (Alton) Barrineau of Cairo, GA 1 Son: Bruce Usimaki of Hemlock, MI 4 Grandchildren, 4 Great Grandchildren 5 nieces and several cousins A private funeral service for Matt will be held on Tuesday November 7, 2006, in the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home of Hancock with Rev. Peter Vorhes to officiate. Burial will be in the Lakeside Cemetery of Hancock. In lieu of flowers or other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials may be given to Gloria Dei Lutheran Church of Hancock.
