Obituary of Mayme Oja HoughtonMayme Oja, 89, a former resident of the Arbor Green Apartments in Houghton passed away early Thursday morning July 9, 2009, at the Portage Hospital in Hancock where she had been a patient for the past 3 days.The former Mayme Reini was born on January 23, 1920, in Ironwood, MI, a daughter of the late William and Katherine (Mars) Reini, and attended the Ironwood Schools. In 1966, she came to the Copper Country to reside in Hancock. She later resided in Dollar Bay, South Range, and in 1989 moved to Arbor Green in Houghton. For the past 3 years she has been a resident patient at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock. Mayme had been employed as a housekeeper at some of the local motels.On October 15, 1966, she was united in marriage to Paul R. Oja, and he preceded her in death on January 6, 1990.Mrs. Oja was a member of the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Atlantic Mine.Surviving are:Her sister: Ethel (Earl) Harju of Largo, FLHer half brother: William Reini of California Several nieces, nephews, and cousinsFuneral services for Mayme will be held 1 pm Monday July 13, 2009, at the First Apostolic Lutheran Church of Atlantic Mine.
