Obituary of Meimi Jaakkola Chassell Meimi Jaakkola 95, a resident of Chassell, passed away late Monday evening, October 6, 2003, at the Portge Health Systems Hospital, in Hancock. The former Meimi (Mae) S. Sormunen was born on Sept. 24, 1908, in Franklin Mine, a daughter of the late John & Mary (Hyyrylainen) Sormunen. As a youth she moved to the Chassell area with her parents, and attended the Chassell Public Schools. She was employed at Wadsworth Hall on the M.T.U. Campus, in Food Service, from 1956 until 1970. In 1970 she retired. On December 24, 1934, she was united in marriage to Hubert Jaakkola in Hancock, and he preceded her in death on Aug. 29, 1983. They lived in Chassell until 1980, when they moved to Plymouth, MI to reside with their daughter, Nona. In later years she resided with their son Gary, in Brighton, MI. For 4 years she made her home with her dughter & son-in-law, Diane & Paul Makela in Oakland, California. Mrs. Jaakkola was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell, the E.L.C.A. Auxilliary of the church and past American Legion Sauvola Post Auxilliary. Also preceding her in death were her parents; 3 Sisters; and 5 Brothers. Surviving are: 3 Sons: Donald Jaakkola of Chassell Gary (Sandy) Jaakkola of Brighton Wayne Jaakkola of Chassell 2 Daughters: Nona (Richard) Osborne of Canton Diane (Paul) Makela of Oakland, California 13 Grandchildren 15 Great Grandchildren numerous nieces, nephews & cousins Funeral services will be held Saturday, Oct. 11, 2003, at 1 P.M. in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. James Gallagher of Grace Lutheran Church in South Range to officiate. Burial to be in the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Chassell,from 4 to 8 P.M. and for 1 hour prior to services at the church on Saturday.
