Obituary of Melida Elsie Wallstrom Obenhoff Melida E. Wallstrom, 97, a former resident of Obenhoff, passed away Saturday evening August 8, 2015, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past six years. She was born on August 20, 1917, in Obenhoff, a daughter of the late John and Matilda Rova. She had attended the Obenhoff School. Melida had to stop her schooling at a young age to help on the family farm and help raise her siblings. On June 18, 1938, she was united in marriage to Edward Wallstrom. The couple moved to Highland Park for a short time before returning to own and operate the Wallstrom family farm in Obenhoff. Mrs. Walstrom also had worked in the food service department at Michigan Technological University for a short time. Mrs. Wallstrom was a member of the Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock. She enjoyed being outdoors, caring for her yard, cross country skiing and snowmobiling. She also helped with 4-H for a while as a younger woman. Preceding her in death were her husband in 2001, her son Gary, her parents, her nine sisters and 2 brothers. Surviving are: Her daughters: Faye (Clifton) Rautio of Onnela Arlene (Gene) Silkowski of Rice Lake Her grandchildren: Jeffery (Nanette) Rautio of Livonia, MI Jon (Debra) Rautio of Hancock Robin (Steve) Buchholz of South Lyon, MI Robert (Kathy) Silkowski of Westland, MI Michael Silkowski of Livonia Her great grandchildren: Denise Rautio, Diana Rautio, Mitchell Rautio, Luke Rautio, Rachel Rautio, Aiden Buchholz, Emma Buchholz, Justin Silkowski, Deanna Silkowski, Khole Silkowski, Megan Perez & Julie Perez Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Melida will be held 11 am Friday August 14, 2015, at the Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock with Pastor Jesse Aho to officiate. Burial will be in the Liminga Cemetery. Friends may call on Friday August 14, 2015, from 10 am until time of services at the Zion Lutheran Church of Hancock. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family suggests that memorials be given to Zion Lutheran Church or Camp Lahti Retreat Center in memory of Melida E. Wallstrom.
