Obituary of Melvin Fraki Superior Rd. Melvin D. Fraki, 65, a resident of Superior Rd., Houghton, passed away Sunday morning May 16, 2010, at the Portage Hospital in Hancock where he had been a patient for the past five days. He was born on September 9, 1944, in Hancock, a son of Emma (Kaiponen) Fraki and the late Roy Fraki. Mel was a graduate of the Houghton High School with the class of 1962. He then attended Soumi College and Northern Michigan University where he received a teaching degree in Business Education with minors in Accounting and Economics. He also was Vocationally Certified in Coordination of Office and Business Education. Mel taught many adult education classes. He also attended Delta College (Saginaw), University of Wisconsin (Whitewater) and Michigan State University (Lansing) with emphasis on Computer Education. Mel taught at North Huron High in Kinde, Michigan; which he loves to this day and the people there and was involved in many activities including sports, adult education, Future Business Leaders of America and Office Education Clubs. He taught also in Detroit Public Schools at Redford High School (6 mile and Grand River) and Crockett Vocational Technical Center downtown Detroit. Mel was awarded the first Outstanding Business Education Award at the state convention of the Michigan Business Education Association (MBEA) in Grand Rapids, Michigan, was visited by the Education Leader from Lansing and in early computer days with his students went over accounting text for South Western Publishing Company. He had a great love for teaching and his students and school activities and had many outstanding students. He enjoyed biking, basketball, gardening, painting, fixing old houses and has made over 30 christian banners for churches and over 40 quilts & pillows which he donated to churches and fundraising activities, for churches and ill individuals. Mel's brothers Donald Fraki, Dennis Fraki, George Fraki and Ernest Fraki survive. He is preceded in death by his brother James Fraki. He has numerous friends and relatives, which he has always thanked in his time of need. As requested no services for Melvin's will be held at this time and burial will take place in the Atlantic Mine Cemetery.
