Mercedes Luoma (Gougeon)

Obituary of Mercedes Mary Luoma Liminga/Houghton Mercedes M. Luoma, 89, a former resident of Liminga and Houghton passed away Wednesday morning December 9, 2015, at the Franklin House of Portage Pointe in Hancock following a lengthy illness. She was born on August 21, 1926, in Baltic, MI, a daughter of the late William and Elsie (Destrampe) Gougeon. As a child, she attended the Jeffers Schools. Mercedes then worked in the housekeeping department at the Douglas House Restaurant and Hotel and retired from the Houghton County Medical Care Facilities housekeeping department. On November 8, 1947, she was united in marriage to Adolph Luoma and in March of 1982, he preceded her in death. Mercedes enjoyed knitting, working word search puzzles, traveling to visit her family and gardening her strawberry and blueberry plants. Preceding her in death were her parents and her husband Adolph. Surviving are: Her son: Paul (Virginia) Luoma of Hurontown Her granddaughters: Tammy (Derick Walsh) Luoma of Marquette Jennifer (Craig) Bower of Green Bay, WI Heidi (Todd) Kauppinen of Ishpeming Polly (Chuck) Luoma-Mannisto of Iron Mountain Her great grandchildren: Jenna (Aaron Butterfield) Luoma, Andre Walsh, Carly Bower, Ty Kauppinen, Charlie Luoma-Mannisto & Meryl Luoma-Mannisto. Her great great grandchildren: Caden Luoma and Lorella Luoma Her sister-in-law: Elsie Luoma a resident patient of Portage Pointe in Hancock Numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. A memorial service for Mercedes will be held 11 am Saturday December 19, 2015, at the South Range Apostolic Lutheran Church with Pastor Chuck Bylkas to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Liminga Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday December 19, 2015, from 10 am until time of services at the South Range Apostolic Lutheran Church.
