Mildred Harkonen

Obituary of Mildred Harkonen Chassell Mrs. Mildred (Hugo) Harkonen, 83, a resident of U.S. 41, Chassell, passed away at her home on Thursday, August 12, 2004, following a lengthy illness. Mindy was born in Pilgrim Location on April 6, 1921, a daughter of the late Matt and Ida (Tikkanen) Laitinen. She later resided in Houghton, the Detroit area, and since 1989, has made her home on U.S. 41, Chassell. She attended the Portage Township Schools. She was united in marriage to Hugo H. Harkonen on May 25, 1946. Mindy was a very caring and outgoing person. When her health permitted it, she called on the sick and was heavily involved with her church, singing in her church choirs in the Detroit area and locally. She was preceded in death by her parents; 3 sisters, Nancy Laitinen, Irene Koski, and Lillian Janhonen; and 5 brothers; Rueben, Wallace, Arthur, Ernest, & Theodore Laitinen. Mindy was a member of the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell. Surviving are: her husband, Hugo 1 Daughter: Linda (Christopher) Marchese of Harrison Township, MI 3 Grandchildren: Amy Lyn Wilson Jennifer Ann Wilson Alicia Ann Marchese 2 Sisters: Mrs. Edna Elsila of Livonia Mrs. Esther Klee of Houghton numeours nieces, nephews, cousins, & friends Funeral services will be held Monday, Aug. 16, 2004, at 1 P.M. in the Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell with Rev. Ted Koehl to officiate. Burial to be in the Forest Hill Cemetery in Houghton. Friends may call on Sunday from 1 to 3, & 4 to 8 P.M. at the Memorial Chapel Funeral Home in Chassell, and from 12 Noon till the time of services at the church on Monday.
