Obituary of Mildred Hilda Huhta Onnela Mildred H. Huhta, 78, a former resident of Onnela passed away Friday afternoon April 11, 2008, at the Houghton County Medical Care Facility in Hancock where she had been a resident patient for the past nine months. She was born on June 10, 1929, in Houghton a daughter of the late Eino and Hilda (Anderson) Riutta. Mildred was a graduate of the Houghton High School. On August 26, 1950, she was united in marriage to Donald W. Huhta and he preceded her in death on September 20th, of this past year. Together, they had resided in Milwaukee, WI, Detroit, MI, and for over the past 41 years had made their home in Onnela. Mildred had worked locally at the St. Joseph's Hospital as a cook and then as a home health aide for many years. Mrs. Huhta was a member of the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bingo, baking, cooking, working cross word puzzles, and knitting. Preceded her in death where her husband, a granddaughter, Malai Kai Huhta, her parents, and 5 brothers: Wilbert, Raymond, Richard, Robert, and Russell. Surviving are: Her sons: Darryl (Augusta) Huhta of Coleville, CA Daniel Huhta of Onnela Charles (Dianne) Huhta of Stanton Twp. Kurt (Tasha) Huhta of Anchorage, Alaska 4 grandsons: Josiah, Evan, Seth, and Colin 3 Granddaughters: Rebecca, Emma, and Jasmine Her Sisters: Verna Johnson of Houghton Alice (Ron) Jestila of Chassell Violet Tuomi of Detroit Lillian Hermanson of Obenhoff Esther (Rick) Hietala of Chassell Numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins Funeral services for Mildred will be held 11 a.m. Friday April 18, 2008, in the Old Apostolic Lutheran Church of Hancock with Clarence Marttila to officiate. Spring burial will be in the Oskar Cemetery. Friends may call on Thursday April 17, 2008, from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Memorial chapel Funeral Home of Hancock and on Friday from 10 a.m. until time of services at the church.
