Obituary of Mildred M. Salo Chassell, Mildred M. Salo, 92, a resident of Broemer Road in Chassell passed away Monday evening, February 29, 2016 at the Omega House in Houghton where she had been a resident patient since this past June. Mildred was born in Hancock, Michigan to the late Walter and Jennie(Vaataja) Gagnon. She was raised in the Pilgrim River area and attended the Houghton High School, where she graduated with the class of 1941. On February 14, 1944, she was united in marriage to the late Eli Salo. He preceded her in death in 1998. Mildred had traveled with Eli during his time in the Army Air Force, until returning back to the area and residing on the Broemer Road since 1953. She was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell. She enjoyed music, playing piano, organ, and guitar. She was also an animal lover, especially of dogs. She enjoyed spending time with her family and babysitting children. Besides her husband Eli, Mildred was preceded in death by her parents, a brother Robert Dunstan, 2 aunts, and 4 uncles. She is survived by her children;Dennis(Helen) Salo of Mission, Texas,Donald(Christine) Salo of Chassell2 grandchildren; Jennifer Pindral and Sara Salo,3 great-grandchildren; Daniel Salo, Joseph Pindral and Alyssa Pindral,4 step-grandchildren; Sandy Almli, Donna Lipske. Keith Almli, and Gary Almli9 step-great grandchildren: Sheena, Whitney, Cassidy, Jessica, Eric, Keith, Patrick, Markus, and Lacey2 step-great great grandchildren: Averie and Emma2 sisters; Jean Juntikka of Chassell, Charlene (Leon Baker) LaPierre of Glendive, Montana,2 brothers; William(Ailie) Dunstan of Houghton Canal and Alvin Gagnon of Rapid River, MI, and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Services for Mildred will be held Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11 am at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in Chassell with Rev. Joe Iverson to officiate. Burial will be held later this spring at the Chassell Cemetery. Friends may call on Saturday March 5, 2016, from 10 am until time of services at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Chassell.
